Public Water Supply Well Design and Permitting

Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC excels in the design, permitting, and installation of Public Water Supply Wells. Providing services for both private and public clients from large regional water suppliers and cities to individual well installations, we will work to ensure that permitting and design are done right to maximize production and the long-term viability of each well. Funding for large capital projects like high production public wells often involved working within the requirements of public funding mechanisms like those through the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). Our personnel are experienced with TWDB funding guide-lines and have worked multiple TWDB funded projects from beginning to successful implementation.

Permitting often requires working with multiple agencies including obtaining State Public Drinking Water Agency approval (TCEQ in Texas) and approval from local control entities like Groundwater Conservation Districts and Cities. We work to ensure that all permitting requirements, including setbacks, are incorporated in the initial design and allowing the permitting process to be as efficient as possible.

Deep Well Exploration

Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC is experienced in deep exploration drilling and characterizing water in deep undeveloped aquifers. Having researched and designed multiple exploration wells in excess of 3,000 feet in depth involving several aquifer types including sand, fractured rock, karst, etc., our personnel are uniquely qualified to assist in assessing potential groundwater sources from deep formations. With our awareness of the challenges of drilling deep, we can offer clients the assurance that projects are designed and installed with experience and knowledge.

Some of the challenges in drilling deep include penetrating pressurized formations that may require Blow off Prevention Device (BOPD) utilization or gas monitoring which (if warranted) are incorporated into the design and specifications. Often, the upper aquifers or potential poor water quality formations need to be isolated by pressure grouting casing in place before drilling continues to the target aquifer formation. Packers can be utilized to isolate a particular zone in a borehole in order to collect a representative water sample from that zone. Innovative and cost effective technologies can be employed including dynamic profiling of water quality and flow at depth and lateral jetting which has the potential to greatly increase the yield of water from carbonate aquifers. Our personnel are recognized in the industry as deep well experts and have shared the challenges in performing deep well projects in presentations at several conferences and well driller workshops including symposiums put on by the Texas Ground Water Association and the Texas Desalination Association.

Groundwater Assessment and Exploration (Fresh and Brackish)

Having a confident understanding of available groundwater water resources and how hydrogeologic characteristics govern water production is essential for water providers to make informed decisions. Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC provides clients with comprehensive detailed groundwater assessments involving both fresh and brackish groundwater sources. We can design studies and investigations to provide quantitative hydrologic analysis of groundwater systems.

Groundwater assessment projects typically involve an initial gathering of all available existing information. We routinely research State databases as well as any locally derived data from groundwater conservation districts to build the framework for further Investigations. Often Oil and Gas drilling records are helpful to obtain information on deep underutilized aquifers and other geologic formations.

Our personnel are experienced in siting and designing exploration boreholes and wells to gather site specific information. A typical exploration borehole will employ a full suite of geophysical logging techniques and involve the collection of incremental boring cuttings (~ every five to ten feet) with detailed lithologic descriptions performed on the borehole cuttings. Downhole camera surveys can be conducted if the geologic formation is stable and can provide invaluable information.

Litigation Support/Expert Witness Testimony

Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC offers strong scientific based support for clients in need of litigation help. Our personnel are experienced in performing expert witness testimony in multiple contested case hearings. Permit applications are often contested and with Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC, you can remain confident in our personnel’s winning track record in presenting and defending scientific based work.

Industry Consulting and Negotiation with Regulatory Agencies

Gamblin Engineering Group, LLC converses on a regular basis with personnel from governmental regulatory agencies, including the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), Multiple Groundwater Conservation Districts (GCDs) throughout Texas, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the Railroad Commission of Texas (RCC), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USACE, as well as other federal and state regulatory agencies. Our knowledge of their operational procedures can be invaluable in achieving a mutually agreed solution to any water resource or environmental problem.
